Science

I ventured into the barn today. Typically I find it rather creepy, and don't have much of a need to go in there. I went in because I had to get the lawnmower and mow where our lawn mowing guy doesn't..he had a 4 wheeler accident and broke his leg in 6 places, and can't walk too well...so he just rides his mower around our yard, and I do the trimming and things.
While in the barn I noticed the barn swallow nests in the rafters. I ran inside to get my camera, and the kids came in the barn with me. We watched the swallow parents swoop around the barn, and I got some photos of the adorable nestlings. (I love birds, but barn swallows...I love beyond all others)

After that we went to check and see how our garden is growing. Our purple heritage tomatoes look like they aren't growing...but the pink tomato plant is getting big...zucchini is getting huge of course...and the cabbages are still looking nice. As we looked at the cabbages we noticed the dirt moving. We stood there, I had the camera poised...dirt kept moving. Kids were convinced it was a snake, I figured it was a mole. I told Add to get the shovel, and I scooped it up, and it was a mole. Gwen declared it to be adorable, and the boys were relieved to see that moles are rather small and cute...for some reason they had imagined them to be big and fearsome. Silly boys.

I took some photos...and we went inside. The 4 of us got on to the computer, and learned how swallows make their mud nests, and that moles have larders full of earthworms. Good day.

On a side note, I got these ridiculous photos of the beasts I live with...otherwise known as dogs.

This is the face of a very happy dog...note her tongue is nearly hitting her eye

This is why Blue hates Bella....note the look of sheer terror.

This is why Blue REALLY hates Bella.
